If you were charged with being a born-again child of God would there be enough evidence to convict you? This is the question Mr. Williams told us to ask ourselves. He gave examples of truth and facts of how we know Jesus is the Son of God. He gave examples of witness testimony such as John to Baptist who proclaimed the coming of the promised one as did Zachariah. He explained how John the Baptist refused to baptize Jesus because he felt unworthy. Then the Father had revealed to him who Jesus actually was. Next up, was a hostile witness, the Devil. He was asked how Jesus was able to make the blinded to see, the lame to walk, the leapers healed, and many more unbelievable acts that Jesus had performed. And how he had tempted Jesus and each time Jesus commanded the Devil to get behind him. The next witnesses were Isaiah, Moses and Elijah who could all attest to the power of the Messiah. The woman of Samaria who spoke to Jesus at the well. Lastly, the two strangers that walked with Jesus who asked him to stay at their home. Although they had walked and talked to him all day, when he broke the bread at the evening meal, their eyes were open to who he actually was, then he vanished. The truth is Jesus is the Son of the one and only God. To convict yourself as a child of God you only need to look in your heart for the burden of proof. You will see the fact that Jesus was the son of God and was sent to save you from sure death. Do you need an eyewitness? The Bible is full of them and their stories. Do you hunger for God? Judge yourself before a Holy and Just God, beg for mercy and plead for his patience. You do not want to feel guilty before God, but as Paul said, to examine yourselves. We are commanded to do this in 2 Corinthians 13:5-7.

This morning at service, Bro. Eddie Dunn spoke in place of our pastor Williams. He cited Matthew 28 and The Great Commission. He reminded us that Christ's instruction to "... go forth and make disciples of all nations..." applied not just to the disciples He was directly speaking to but was intended for all of us. What Jesus means is that each of us, once we have committed ourselves to Him, has a duty to give witness to others so that others might be led to salvation through Him. Eddie also stated the importance of starting at the beginning. Before we can give effective witness, we must have had a life-changing, soul-changing encounter with Jesus. He shared with everyone his own personal testimony of the day he was saved and gave his life to Jesus. He spoke of his early efforts to reach out to others, many of them complete strangers, in order to bring his witness. As with all such efforts, some were immediately successful, some were not. His reminder was that for us, the task is to plant the seeds in others; the results belong to God. Eddie was open about his experiences; all we have to do is be equally open when we are sharing our testimony with others. Thanks, Eddie.

This morning, Pastor Williams began his message by recalling the tradition under the old Hebrew law that, if a man were bound in servitude to a master, he was marked with an earing so that everyone knew he was so bound. In like manner, when we as children of God agree to be bound by the law of love of Jesus, we are also marked. The mark we bear is the obligation to "...have love one for another." If we live the way Jesus instructed us, there will never be a reason to have to tell anyone that we are Christians; that fact will automatically show in our attitudes and behavior. He recalled the stories of Abraham and Joseph who demonstrated consistently through their obedience and acceptance of God's will that they belonged to Him totally and unquestionably. Again, he reiterated a familiar theme of leaving past hurts and hard feelings just where they belong - in the past. If anyone chooses to be marked by holding on to past negativity, they will not be able to receive the mark of Jesus's love and thus live by it. Christianity is a religion of constant movement; which direction are you moving in?

Our pastor today spoke a message of consistency in conformity to God's will. He began with Solomon who, when he assumed his kingship, chose wisdom over any other gift he could have had, including, wealth and power. But as he grew older, he allowed his wives to turn his head from the true God to worship idols. King Asa, who once tore down the statues of false gods, eventually turned away from the true God and began to permit and even encourage idol worship, Jonah, who for so long had been a faithful prophet of the Lord God, rebelled against the will of God and refused for a while to preach God's message of repentance to the people of Nineveh. Adam, in the Garden of Eden, had been faithful until he decided to fall for a false promise from the evil one. All these are examples of what can happen when we fail to maintain our focus on the word of God as our guiding light. If that happens, the result is always bad. It never matters what we used to be; what always matters is what we decide to be today.
Happy Fathers' Day to all fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers out there today. Pastor Williams began his message with a very special recitation directed to fathers, particularly those with little girls. The poignancy of his recitation was awesome! Following that, he began his message by recalling the story of God directing Abraham (Abram at the time) to leave his home country of UR, leave his family, and go to a land which God would show him. If there were any words to describe Abraham's character, they would be obedient and faithful. So he left his homeland and traveled to his new country. Also traveling to this new land was Abraham's nephew Lot, with his life and children. Spending so much time together brought tension and friction between the two families, so Abraham told Lot they must separate. He allowed Lot to choose which direction he wanted to go, and Abraham would travel in the opposite direction. Lot chose the direction of the valley as opposed to the mountains because it appeared to be the easier of the two. Lot's first mistake - and the first lesson for us - is that what appears to be the easier of two choices is not necessarily the right one. There is always more to consider than the apparent ease (or apparent difficulty) of each choice. The pastor drew a parallel with Luke's story of the prodigal son. The younger son asked his father for his share of the father's estate while he was still young. It seemed so much more appealing, and so much easier, than remaining on his father's farm and working in the fields every day. But once again, pursuing the easier option, rather than considering the possible long-term consequences, turns out to be the wrong choice. But the God we serve is One of boundless love and mercy, always eager to forgive our mistakes when we come to Him in sincere repentance. God is good...all the time.
Pastor Williams today began his message with a story from 1 Kings in which a man of God named Josiah was given a task to deliver a message. In connection with this task, he was instructed by God not to eat or drink anything with anyone and also to travel back by a different route. After delivering his message and while preparing to begin his return journey, he was persuaded to share a meal with someone who called himself a prophet. During his return trip, he was killed by a lion. The message is clear: it is not acceptable to be obedient some of the time, or even most of the time. There are consequences any time we willingly disregard God's instructions. The pastor concluded his message today with a familiar theme. There is no such thing as a part-time Christian. It is God's will for us, and His instruction to us, to be reconciled with one another. Quoting from the book of James: "If we know that there is a good we should do and yet choose not to do it, we sin, and the wages of sin is death." If we have a dispute with someone and it is within our power to take steps to reconcile and restore the relationship, and we choose not to, we are wrong, and we sin. May God bless our pastor for having the God-centered courage to always tell us the truth.
We sang blessings over America today and remembered those who gave it all for our freedom. We welcomed the Williams’ back from their trip. Mr. Williams spoke of the beauty God has planted in our world. The song of the bird, the colors of a rainbow, the beauty of the sunset/sunrise, the wonderful scent of the flowers, and many other gifts God provides. God has blessed us all beyond measure. We were encouraged to take time to enjoy God’s gifts. Mr. Williams also spoke how we are like putty in a potter’s hand. How God molds us to be what we should be. How we are all marred and God heals our wounds, heals our sorrows, heals our soul. He accepts us as we are and works to make us all a shining light for the unsaved to see the way. Mr. Williams spoke of how Zechariah 9:9 tells of the King is coming not on a warhorse but mildly on a donkey. He warned not to let the day the Lord visits and his offered salvation pass us by.

Today in Mr. Williams absence, Vince took the reins. The service was awesome. Vince spoke of how we learn about our Lord. He began by comparing the song “Digging up Bones” to leaving things we cannot change in the past. The past is the past and you cannot move closer to the Lord without moving forward. The future is much more important than the past. The second point to his service was how we learn about God by watching what he does. He likened a drowning man and how you must wait until they completely give up trying to save themselves before you attempt to save them, or you will both drown. You must completely give up trying to save yourself to allow God to work in your life. Nobody is beyond reach. We all have a role to play in his plan. Vince told as an example of how in 1809 babies were born that changed the world. Abe Lincoln, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Darwin, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louis Braille who developed a way for blind to read. These are just a few babies that God sent us to accomplish his purpose. They all had a roll to play in this life just as you. No matter your age or station in life, you have a critical roll to play for God. Reflect on your purpose. Take the hand of the Father and let him save you from drowning in sin. He patiently awaits your call.
As could be expected, our Pastor, on this Mothers' Day morning, spoke of mothers in the Bible. He spoke of Sarah, upon whom motherhood arrived very late in life, reminding us that nothing is impossible with God. He spoke of Naomi and Ruth, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and how the loving guidance and advice of Naomi led Ruth to find a good and loving husband and eventually the joys of motherhood. He told the story of Elijah and the Shunamite woman who was childless and nonetheless very kind to Elijah. Through his prayers, the Shunamite woman was able to have a son. The son died when he was just a young boy, but Elijah was able to restore him to life and fulfill the mother's dream of having a son. God does some pretty amazing things in His management of His creation, but none more wonderful than bestowing motherhood on women who truly appreciate the blessing of having children. Raising and guiding and nurturing children is what mothers do, and there is no more important work in all creation than that.
This morning our Pastor spoke once again about reconciliation: about the importance of being reconciled with God and being reconciled with one another. Quoting from the writing of the prophet Jeremiah, he said that the children of Israel suffered much because of their stubborn refusal to take God at His word. Words always matter, he said, and God's word matters most of all. Unless we heed His word, it will not be possible for us to align our thoughts, opinions and actions with His will. In short, we won't be reconciled with Him. Regarding our fellow man, especially our fellow members of our Church family, reconciliation is essential if we expect the Lord to continue to bless us and our efforts. Once again, quoting 1 John, how can we love God whom we can't see if we don't love our brothers whom we can see?
We have been so blessed by this couple. Our Pastor and our number 1 fiddle player who celebrates her birthday today. We all love you tremendously.
Today, our Pastor introduced his message with a reminder of the importance of living in the love of the present rather than the wrongs we may have received in the past. Of all the things we should realize as God's children, we can live in the certainty that we can overlook and overcome any wrongs or hurt feelings and move forward toward loving everyone in the Spirit and example of Almighty God and His Son. In his message, he retold the story of the two men traveling to Emmaeus after the crucifixion and then resurrection of Jesus. The Lord fell in step with them as they walked and, without identifying Himself, began to explain to them many of the Old Testament prophecies which led up to what happened to Jesus. It was all necessary in order that the prophecies be fulfilled. The Pastor led us through the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, then that made about the tribe of Judah regarding the Messiah deriving from its lineage. His primary point was that, just as Jesus led His travelling companions to a better understanding of the Scriptures, it is necessary that each of us pursue a deeper understanding of the Word as well. It's the only way we will truly understand what Jesus of Nazareth wants us to know today: namely, (returning to his introductory theme) that it is not only possible but critically important that we learn to leave the past in the past, let bygones be bygones, and live in the love of Jesus with everyone every day.
